Welcome to the 22st Annual JROTC Drill Meet Website
Hosted by the Vanderbilt University NROTC Unit!
APRIL 6th, 2013 0745-1800
Every spring the Vanderbilt NROTC program organizes a drill competition for many local JROTC programs. Every year there are around twenty-five high school JROTC units that compete against each other proving their respective proficiency in seven different type drill-inspection categories. In each of these competitions each individual JROTC member has the potential to boost their unit to the top. The different categories of competition are: Armed Basic, Armed Platoon Exhibition, Color Guard, Military Knowledge, Unarmed Platoon Basic, Unarmed Squad Exhibition, and Dual Exhibition.
Armed Basic: The various units will display their proficiency together as a unit in handling of their weapon — a rifle. During this phase of the competition, the respective members will display the following static movements: Left Shoulder, Right Shoulder, Parade Rest, Colors, etc.
Armed Platoon Exhibition: In this phase of the competition the individual units will perform coordinated armed movements. Such movements include spinning rifles and exemplifying drill movements to the best of the platoon’s ability.
Color guard: The individual units will present a small team consisting of four or five unit members that perform the routine governed by the rules of Color guard. This will include the coordination of marching in formation and synchronized presentation of the colors.
Individual Exhibition: In this exercise, the
individual units will produce a one member team. This member will display a
routine within a certain designated space. This exercise can include
member rifle tricks and complex marching movements.
Military Knowledge: Not only will the units be judged on their physical movements, but also their respective knowledge. The inspection will inquire into basic military knowledge containing such knowledge as: Chain of Command, Respective military branch customs and traditions, Uniform presentation, and other governing doctrine.
Unarmed Platoon Basic: In this exercise, the units will march together in coordinated movements but without a weapon. These movements include: Forward March, Column Right and Left, etc.
Unarmed Squad Exhibition: In this exercise, the units will march together in coordinated movements but without a weapon. These movements include: Forward March, Column Right and Left, ect.
Dual Exhibition: In this exercise, the individual units will produce a team of two unit members. These two members will display a coordinated routine together within a certain designated space. This exercise can include dual member rifle tricks and complex marching movements.
Each of these exercises will be evaluated by both current Vanderbilt NROTC Unit Midshipman and United States Marine Corps guest drill instructors. The competition is difficult but extremely rewarding. There is no better feeling than that of the success brought from finally succeeding after hours of hard work in preparation.
